Stronghold 4 Demo: Availability and Included Content

The Stronghold 4 demo is live on Steam right now. Firefly Studios released it on June 23, 2026, and it has since received two free content updates, so what you can play today is much larger than the original build. You can find it through the demo button on the official Stronghold 4 Steam page, where the game itself is listed as "Coming Soon" for a December 7, 2026 Early Access launch.

What the demo includes

The demo has grown in three stages, according to Firefly's Steam news posts:

• June 23, 2026: The first public build opened with a tutorial and two missions, one economy-focused and one military-focused, giving a taste of castle building, tax and food management, and siege defense.
• October 8, 2026: A second demo added Free Build on the studio's largest ever map, the new late-game unit The Captain, moats as a defensive tool, and wool and weaving production chains. In Free Build you can grow a peaceful settlement and use a lightning icon to grant instant gold and honor or summon an enemy invasion to test your fortress.
• October 19, 2026: For Steam Next Fest, the demo gained Skirmish mode, a deathmatch against three CPU opponents: campaign protagonist Penryn plus series characters The Snake and Sir Longarm.

Firefly asks demo players to complete the in-game feedback form to help shape the game before launch.

Limits to know before you download

The demo is PC-only via Steam, like the full game, and it is single-player only. The Early Access version is planned to add a 22-mission prequel campaign, full skirmish against 8 unique CPU opponents, a skirmish trail, and Steam Workshop support, with online PvP, co-op skirmish, and an economic campaign arriving in version 1.0 after roughly six months of Early Access. Nothing beyond that is playable in the demo.
